The Bledisloe Cup features two Rugby union teams, those from New Zealand and those from Australia. The competition is named after a former New Zealand Governor, who donated the trophy for the Bedisloe Cup back in 1931. The series was once played every few years, but has now switched to an annual format and is played ever year. The matches that are part of the World Cup are not Bledisloe Cup matches, but some of the Tri Nations fixtures that are between these two nations are. Normally, these matches are only played in Australia or in New Zealand, but in 2008, for the first time a match was played outside of these two nations. That match happened in Hong Kong and then the next year, another match outside of these two nations were played, in Tokyo. The series started in 1931, played for the first time in Eden Park, but there is some dispute to that by New Zealand.

Four games made up the 2010 edition of the Bledisloe Cup, with the first match in Etihad Stadium in Melbourne with Australia losing to New Zealand 28-49. New Zealand beat Australia in the second match in August and then it was New Zealand who took the third match, played at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney. The fourth match went to New Zealand.
