Australian Rugby Union Signs Center Berrick Barnes For Two More Years

Berrick BarnesAlthough the 24 year old center Berrick Barnes had extremely attractive offers from several overseas organizations he chose to stay with the Australian Rugby Union for another two years. He also re-signed with the Waratahs and will join Stephen Moore, Drew Mitchell, Ben Alexander and Adam Ashely Cooper, Waratah teammates who have all designed sto stay with the Australian Rugby Union as well, which makes for a great well-rounded team and gives the Australian Rugby Union a key signing in their quest to get some great players.

Berrick Barnes was in the squad when the team went to the 2007 Rugby World Cup, starting as a replacement for Stephen Larkham in a pool game against Japan. His first try on the international level was scored within three minutes of being put in the game and he had another before the game was over. The next two pool games he played as a fly half, one against Wales and another against Fiji and was able to grab a drop goal in each of those two games, then resting for one term before playing in the quarters against England.

Barnes said that he was very excited to have things cleared up as well as to be staying in Sydney and playing for his country. He also said that both the Australian Rugby Union and the NSW Waratahs have been great to him and he feels like he is wanted and needed. He also said that he has pride in playing for the team and the Union. He said that getting signed back on is great for his peace of mind and now he is stable and has a sense of security. He also said that now he can “focus on the footy.
